18th International Workshop on Inelastic  Ion-Surface Collisions (IISC-18)

September 26 – October 1, 2010, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, USA

The Park Vista Hotel in Gatlinburg is 47 miles from the Knoxville airport (McGhee Tyson airport), which is not an international airport but has direct flights to many international airports: Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Chicago, Houston, Miami, Memphis, New York, Orlando, and Washington DC. The nearest international airports from which you can drive are the Atlanta airport (Hartsfield-Jackson airport) at ~206 miles (~4 hours drive) or the Nashville Airport (217 miles ~3.5 hours drive).  If your final destination is one of these international airports, you will have to rent a car and drive to the hotel (see links at the bottom for driving directions).

If you land in Knoxville, you can make you own arrangements or use a special shuttle service arranged for IISC (see below). If you wish to make your own arrangements , information about taxis and major automobile rental agencies can be found in the Knoxville airport web page (point to "Ground Transportation" in the airport web page and click on "Taxis, Limousines and Buses" or "Car Rental"). If you take a taxi, a one-way fare from the airport to the hotel is ~$80-$100.

Once in the Park Vista Hotel you can use the regularly scheduled trolley transportation from the hotel to Gatlinburg (trolley routes red or green). You can use a connecting trolley to reach Dollywood in Pigeon Forge (pink route) or a small fraction of the National Park (tan route). Finally, you can also walk to downtown Gatlinburg.  The walk takes about 15 min but is relatively strenuous and you can do this at you own risk.

Airport shuttle service arranged for IISC

Executive Limo and Sedan will be the official IISC ground transportation between the airport in Knoxville and the Park Vista Hotel in Gatlinburg. The rates for the shuttle will be $40 per person one-way if you share a ride with other participants and $75 for a single person. The rates for a round trip are $80 (shared) and $150 (not shared). All rides need to be reserved in advance. We will coordinate the shared rides up to September 16. Please send us an email at iisc18@ornl.gov , put "IISC transportation name" in the subject line of your email ("name" is your last name), and provide the following information

- Passenger name(s)
- Will you need transportation to the hotel only or round trip?
- Arrival date, arrival time, airline company, and flight number
- Departure date, departure time, airline company, and flight number (if you need a reservation for your return)
- Would you like to share a ride and perhaps wait an hour or two until other passengers arrive?

You will be notified within a few days that we received your reservation. If you don't hear from us for more a week please notify us by email or phone.

Incoming passengers will be greeted by Executive Limo and Sedan on the baggage claim level at the bottom of the escalator. The shuttle driver will carry a pink card with the name of the conference and will assist you with your baggage. You will have to pay for your reservation in cash or traveler's checks (Executive Limo does not accept credit cards issued in countries other than the US).  Make sure that you get a receipt. There is no currency exchange at the Knoxville airport.  However, there is an ATM machine at the top of the same escalator that you will use to get to your baggage.

After September 16 you will need to make your own reservation with Executive Limo and Sedan by either phone (+1)865-671-2509, email limos.of.knoxville@gmail.com or fax (1+) 865-966-0632. They will try to coordinate shared rides as well.
