The Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory - LIGO status and results from the latest science run

Albert Lazzarini, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA
6008 Conference Room

LIGO interferometers are nearing design sensitivity and the project promises to open new window on the universe. LIGO completed its third science run in the spring of 2004 and is now planning a new series of science runs at the end of this year and throughout next year.
The talk will introduce the audience to gravitational waves, their strengths, how they can be detected, and astrophysical sources. Results from recent science runs will be discussed.
