We undertook design simulations to determine whether we can design and build a spacecraft and place it in close orbit of the Sun so that we will be able to (1) measure a large enough number of neutrino interactions to improve the study of the solar interior and (2) conduct other fundamental physics studies. Using the Geant-4 Monte Carlo package, we made a detailed study of neutrino signal events and backgrounds for the preliminary design of the Neutrino Solar Orbiting Lab. Studies of the detector system construction and neutrino detection methods were combined with studies of the shielding that protects the detector array from electromagnetic solar radiation. We developed an electronic trigger and applied its function to the detector and background rates. The results led us to believe that the final detector idea is feasible but technically challenging. These developments will be summarized, and the scientific impact on the neutrino spacecraft design study will be presented.
