Directed, Elliptic and Triangular: PHENIX Results on Flow Observables in Asymmetric Cu+Au Collisions at RHIC

Brennan Schaefer, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN 37203
Physics Division, Bldg. 6008 Large Conference Room

Recent analysis of results from heavy ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider are presented. Measurements of anisotropic flow from asymmetric Cu+Au collisions at √s_NN = 200 GeV with the PHENIX detector allow tighter constraint for theoretical models describing bulk effects in hot, strongly coupled QCD matter. The event-by-event azimuthal distribution of produced particles is characterized with Fourier analysis and the first three coefficients (directed, elliptical, and triangular moments) are compared to measurements from Cu+Cu and Au+Au systems. Further analytical reach is provided by the asymmetric system which allows the influence of initial system geometry and density to be investigated.
