Neutron Beta Decay Correlations and Spectroscopy

Leah Broussard, Seaborg Postdoctoral Fellow, LANL, Albuquerque, NM
Physics Division, Bldg. 6008 Large Conference Room

Neutron beta decay measurements provide a sensitive characterization of the electroweak interaction. The Standard Model description is over-determined by the number of accessible experimental observables, permitting stringent con- straints on Beyond Standard Model physics. The UCNB and Nab collaborations have developed a detection system based on thick, large area, highly segmented silicon detectors to measure several angular correlations between the emitted particles and the neutron spin and perform beta spectroscopy. I will present an overview of the UCNB and Nab experiments and the physics impact of new pre- cision measurements, give the status of development of the fully instrumented detection system, and discuss the program of systematic studies using the ul- tracold neutron spectrometer at Los Alamos.
