Physics Division Seminars

Physics Division Seminars bring us speakers on a variety of physics related subjects. Usually these are held in the Building 6008 large Conference Room, at 3:00 pm on the chosen day, but times and locations may vary. For more information, contact our seminar chairman,

Quasi-Free Scattering and Knockout Reactions with Rare Isotopes

Carlos Bertulani, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Commerce, TX
ORNL, Bldg. 6008 Large Conference Room

I discuss the physics of knockout reactions, (p,2p) and (p,pn) reactions with rare isotope projectiles at energies in the range of 100 MeV - 1 GeV/nucleon. Despite theoretical complications due to the sensitivity of observables to medium effects and to multiple scattering effects, I show that momentum distributions are mostly sensitive to the angular momentum of the ejected nucleon and the nucleon separation energies.
