Nanostructured materials have attracted a great attention in the last decade due to their unprecedented properties when compared to their bulk counterparts, thus have provided new applications in nanoscale -mechanics, -electronics, and -photonics as well as new research opportunities in soft matter and advanced energy studies. This presentation will briefly review nanostructured materials research conducted recently at LANL Ion Beam Materials Laboratory in the context of irradiation tolerance and stabilities for potential nuclear energy applications. Three types of nanostructured systems will be presented including nanophase ceramics, multilayered nanofilms, and nonporous metals etc. Underlining mechanisms responsible for enhanced radiation tolerance in nanostructured materials are also discussed.
