Properties of High-Density Matter in Neutron Stars

Fridolin Weber, San Diego State University
Building 6008, Large Conference Room

Neutron stars contain matter in one of the densest forms found in the Universe. This feature, together with the unprecedented progress in observational astrophysics, make neutron stars superb astrophysical laboratories for a broad range of physical studies, which provide information about the fundamental building blocks of matter, the properties of the strong interaction in ultra-dense matter, and even of the structure of space-time itself. This talk will provide an overview of several such studies. Special emphasis is put on possible phase transitions in the cores of neutron stars.
