Physics Division Seminars

Physics Division Seminars bring us speakers on a variety of physics related subjects. Usually these are held in the Building 6008 large Conference Room, at 3:00 pm on the chosen day, but times and locations may vary. For more information, contact our seminar chairman,

Chemical physics with cold stored ion beams

Richard Thomas, Stockholm University (Sweden)
Building 6008 Conference Room

Dissociative recombination, in which a molecular cation attaches a free electron and fragments into neutral products, is a superb tool for investigating the dynamics in highly excited molecules. In this seminar I will discuss the experimental tools employed to study this reaction and the data analysis used to interpret the measurements and illustrate this by highlighting results from several recent experiments. Finally, I will present the "next generation" of apparatus which is currently under construction in Stockholm to investigate molecular dynamics from a different perspective.
