Prospects for producing non-reactor medical isotopes

Thomas J. Ruth, TRIUMF, Vancouver, Canada
Building 6008 Conference Room

The supply of 99Mo has become of keen interest with the recent reactor leakage problems and shutdown of the various 99Mo-producing reactors for prolonged maintenance periods. Without the prospect of having alternative sources of 99Mo for existing or future reactors within the next five years, the medical community is turning to other means of producing 99Mo. The possibilities of using accelerators to produce 99Mo and/or 99mTc directly have become topics for exploration. An update on the possibilities for this approach will be provided.
