Current Status of the 60 MW Research Reactor for Neutron Scattering Experiment and the New Radioactive Ion Beam Facility at CIAE

Dongfeng Chen, CIAE, Beijing
Building 6008 Conference Room

A 60 MW China Advanced Research Reactor (CARR) is being built at China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) in Beijing to meet the increasing demand of neutron scattering research in China. The maximum unperturbed thermal neutron flux is expected to be 8×1014 n/cm2/s in the reflector. Seven tangent horizontal beam tubes will be used for neutron scattering experiments, and eight machines will be built for first phase instrumentation. A cold source and a 30×60 m2 guide hall will be constructed. A Radioactive Ion Beam Facility is also under construction at CIAE for research in nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics. It is based on the existing tandem accelerator. A 100-MeV cyclotron, a two-stage isotope separator, and a superconducting LINAC booster will be added. The current status of the two facilities will be presented.
