IceCube and AURA - Building a neutrino detector at the South Pole

Hagar Landsman, IceCube collaboration, University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI
Building 6008 Conference Room

Building a km scale detector at the South Pole is a challenging task. The evasiveness of the neutrino together with the harsh and isolated environment imposes technical difficulties in the design, construction, and deployment of the detector.

I will review the design, status, and results from the well established IceCube detector and the newly proposed next generation neutrino detector "AURA" (Askaryan UnderIce Radio Array).
