Physics Division Seminars bring us speakers on a variety of physics related subjects. Usually these are held in the Building 6008 large Conference Room, at 3:00 pm on the chosen day, but times and locations may vary. For more information, contact our seminar chairman,

A project to build an ISOL post-accelerator type radioactive ion beam facility has been taken up at VECC. The project has been planned in two stages. The first stage is basically a R&D stage where the main thrust would be on the design and prototype development of the critical components of the facility. The design of target, ion-source including charge-breeder, He-jet transport with multistage skimmer for injection of charge-neutral radioactive atoms into ion source, design of RFQ as the first post-accelerator and Linac modules for acceleration up to about 400 keV/u has been planned in this phase. The experimental facilities as well as the design and development of accelerators for acceleration of RIBs up to about 6-7 MeV/u have been planned in the second phase. The activities for the first stage are in progress now, and the present status of the same will be the main topic of this talk.
