Physics Division Seminars

Physics Division Seminars bring us speakers on a variety of physics related subjects. Usually these are held in the Building 6008 large Conference Room, at 3:00 pm on the chosen day, but times and locations may vary. For more information, contact our seminar chairman,

Search for New Physics with BaBar

Stefan M. Spanier, University of Tennessee
Building 6008 Conference Room

The BaBar Collaboration has observed CP violation in the Standard Model of Particle Physics with unprecedented precision. The experiment measures decay asymmetries in B-meson decays at the e+e-asymmetric-energy collider, PeP-II of SLAC. With increasing amount of data the experiment becomes very sensitive to new particles and interactions not foreseen in the Standard Model. The detector for internally reflected Cherenkov light (DIRC) is very important for the CP measurements of BaBar and its spectroscopy program. In this talk new results in the Search for New Physics and the novel Cherenkov detector will be discussed.
