18th International Workshop on Inelastic Ion-Surface Collisions (IISC-18)September 26 – October 1, 2010, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, USASocial Program |
Welcome receptionWe will have a welcome reception
/ dinner
for all participants and accompanying persons on Sunday September 26 at
6 p.m.
Conference excursionWe will have two parallel
conference
excursions (at the same time): either a visit to the Ripley's
Aquarium or a Hiking trip in the Smoky Mountains. We will get back
together for dinner at the hotel.
For the visit to Ripley's aquarium we will charter two small buses that will run between the hotel and the aquarium for 4 hours. For the hiking trip we will take a chartered bus to a trailhead in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. If the weather is nice we will take you to the highest point of the Smoky mountains named Clingmans Dome. The bus trip is about one hour long and we will stay up there for 2.5-3 hours. Once in the parking lot of Clingmans Dome participants can choose between an easy hike (3.5 miles round trip) to Andrews Bald or an extremely easy paved hike (1 mile round trip) to Clingmans Dome. Fast walkers can do both. You can see here pictures of the Andrews bald hike taken in late September of 2009 so you know what to expect. Restrooms are available by the parking lot of Clingmans Dome but no food is available so we will provide bottled water and snacks. If the weather is not nice (mountains covered by clouds and no visibility) we will choose an alternative lower elevation hike such as Rainbow Falls. Conference dinnerThe conference dinner will take
place on Thursday evening.
