SNS is a Unique Neutrino Source
The SNS will produce about 10
15
neutrinos per second from the decay of stopped pions
at 60 Hz repetition rate
pulse width of about 600 ns
a flux of about 3x10
6
/sec/cm
2
at 50 meters from the SNS target
The most intense pulsed, intermediate-energy neutrino source in the world!
The pulse structure
drastically reduces cosmic ray background
allows separation of muon neutrinos from muon anti-neutrinos and electron neutrinos
