Requirements for Visitors to Physics Division

Physics Division is part of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory which is operated by UT-Battelle, LLC, for the U.S. Department of Energy. We, therefore, have fairly strict rules we must follow when others come for visits. There are no exceptions to these rules! Depending on your status, receiving permission to visit the Physics Division (not all of ORNL!) may take up to 3 months! Please decide whether your visit constitutes an assignment or a visit, and send your contact person this information as soon as the dates of your visit are known or use our on-line form. Please note that the time it takes to process your application for a visit or assignment depends on your citizenship and can take up to four months for non-citizens.

There are two different types of passes. One is for building 6000 area only and the other is for the entire laboratory. Because we are "outside the fence" it is often sufficient for a Bldg. 6000 area only type of pass. If this is desired, you need to be aware that you may not enter the fenced area of the laboratory which is also where the cafeteria is located. In these cases, a drive into Oak Ridge or a "brown bag lunch" (bring your own food) is necessary. All non-citizens should check in at Visitor Control, Bldg. 5000. U.S. citizens do not need to check in at Visitor Control unless they wish to go "inside the fence".

U.S. Citizens

This is the simplest procedure. A drivers license or some other photo-id is required. This may be done the day of arrival. If laboratory-wide access is needed the information contained on the drivers license should be faxed or given to us the day before arrival.

Citizens from non-sensitive countries
