Workshop on Neutron EDM
Experimental Techniques
Logistics Information
Welcome to ORNL and the Workshop on Neutron EDM Experimental Technique! We hope you have an enjoyable and productive visit to ORNL. This page attempts to provide complete information needed to make your visit as smooth as possible.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Vince Cianciolo (member, local organizing committee – 865-254-0876, cianciolotv@ornl.gov) or Sherry Lamb (conference secretary – 865-574-4772, lambsm@ornl.gov).
There will not be a registration fee.
For general
information about visiting ORNL, please read Visitor Information on
ORNL's public website.
The nearest airport to ORNL is McGhee-Tyson in Knoxville, although sometimes it can be more convenient and/or less expensive to fly into either Atlanta-Hartsfield or Nashville and drive (2-3 hours) to Oak Ridge.
ORNL and regional maps and directions can be found here. Getting into and around the site realistically requires a rental car. If people are interested in possible carpools, please let us know and we can try to help coordinate.
The meeting will be held in the main SNS building, 8600, room C-156 (on the main floor). Large-scale and zoomable maps can be found at the link given in the section above. Detailed maps showing how to get to the visitor center, and from there to the SNS, are shown here.
Please plan
to arrive at ORNL while the Visitor Center is open (Monday-Friday 7:00-17:00).
The badging process usually takes 5-10 minutes. You will need to bring
identification when you come to ORNL: U.S. citizens will need a photo-ID such
as a driver's license. Non-US citizens will need to bring a passport and visa.
Note: it is
possible to stay at the ORNL guesthouse (near
the SNS) even if you arrive after the Visitor Center is closed (although you
will need to make reservations in advance). See Lodging Information, below.
Several guests have let us know that they plan to stay at the Staybridge Suites in downtown Oak Ridge, but there are many options available:
ORNL GUEST
HOUSE: Onsite accommodations are available at the ORNL Guest House, located
just a short walk away from the Spallation Neutron Source and within a
five-minute drive of any part of the Laboratory. The Guest House is a
three-story, 47-room, 71-bed facility. All rooms have a mini-fridge and
microwave. Reservations can be made 24/7 by calling 865-576-8101 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting end_of_the_skype_highlightingor
you can make an online
reservation.
OFFSITE LODGING: Local
phone numbers and locations of the principal hotels and motels in Oak Ridge are
given here.
This is not a comprehensive list nor do we favor one establishment over
another. Typical room rates are between 85-100 USD per night single occupancy.
Non-smoking rooms are available.
A visitor wireless network is available and connection is normally straightforward. Instructions can be found here.
There will be a workshop dinner on Friday, October 12. Everyone is invited to my house for pizza and a bonfire. Directions can be found here.
· If the weather is nice and people are interested and in town on Sunday October the 14th I would be happy to arrange for a hike in Smoky Mountain National Park – the fall colors should be fantastic!
· The Neutron Sciences User Page has more information on the User program at the SNS.
· A dining guide for Oak Ridge is also available.
