3.2.2 Accept/Reject Method

Here, we choose a set of random numbers uniformly distributed between 0 and to establish values for . We shall focus upon one of these random numbers, . Thus,

Given this , we then choose another ``independent'' random number, . If is less than or equal to the probability of emission at angle , then we accept the emission, otherwise we reject the emission and repeat the process. Thus, we accept the emission if and only if:

where is proportional to the probability of emission at angle . We repeat the above process until we have established directions for all particles to be emitted.

The above is an inefficient method for achieving emissions because when the emission is rejected the work is wasted.
