1.5.10 lpr

Prints a file to a your default printer.

lpr -P printername Allows one to print a file to the specified printer printername.

Note: the lpr command used without the -P printer option will print a file to your default printer. To learn which printer this would be, type echo $PRINTER or echo $LPDEST (which are the most common names for environment variables which contain the name of the default printer).

Examples
lp -d jics helpme
prints the helpme file in the current working directory to the printer named jics.
lpr -Pjics helpme
prints the helpme file in the current working directory to the printer named jics.
