- X applications use an environment variable named
DISPLAY to determine which X server to use. If you have
trouble starting X clients on other machines (e.g. the application
seems to start but you don't see and windows) check with your local
administrator to make sure your .login and other startup
files are configured properly
- This is the same group that
produced GNU emacs, the GNU C compiler(gcc), and several other
widely used, high quality Unix programs. Use Archie () to find an
anonymous FTP site for these other programs and for information
about the foundation and its goals.
- Another way of formatting documents on a computer is the
``what you see is what you get'' (WHYSIWYG, pronounced ``whizzy-wig")
type of text processor, such as Microsoft Word or FrameMaker.
In these systems authors make changes directly to the document and
the results can be seen immediately.
