Theoretical Nuclear Astrophysics
We have established a new program at ORNL in Theoretical Nuclear
Astrophysics that is well integrated with the experimental nuclear
astrophysics measurements being made at the Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam
Facility. One major thrust of the program is to address the core collapse
supernova problem, and a Grand Challenge team has been assembled for this
purpose. Another research area is in the nucleosynthesis that occurs in
novae and supernovae, for which a new reaction rate network code is being
written.
