Research Facilities in the ORNL Physics Division
There are two experimental facilities in the
Physics Division of
Oak Ridge National Laboratory
that are being utilized for research in nuclear astrophysics.
The
Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility (HRIBF) is being used to
make direct measurements of nuclear reactions on radioactive isotopes
that occur in stellar explosions. The
Oak Ridge Electron Linear Accelerator (ORELA)
is being used to measure neutron-induced reactions important
for the production of heavy elements in red giants and in stellar
explosions. Additionally, the programs in
Theoretical Nuclear Astrophysics utilize ORNL's
High Performance Computing Facilities.
